I was recently given the opportunity to install an Isilon NL-series solution for a customer. Overall, the installation went great, but, having never installed one, I ran across some small hiccups that could easily be avoided in the future.
Despite what the installation documentation conveniently leaves out, be sure to install the rack rails 1U above the bottom of the unit. I made the typical assumption that the rails would mount flush with the bottom of the unit but quickly discovered this was not the case. Beyond that, it’s pretty self explanatory.
She’s quite beautiful, if I do say so myself! 😀

It seems that, since I last wrote, I have made little progress towards finding a new home for my blog. I did, however, come to the conclusion that WordPress.org may not suite the my purposes. I’ll be blogging on my search for a new CMS in the coming weeks.
Since we’re talking about new beginnings, I’d like to announce that I’m ending my first week as a Systems Engineer with Varrow! I’ll soon be linking this blog with blogs.varrow.com and will be blogging much more frequently.

All three of the people who currently read the blog are probably wondering why I have not been posting much on it. Well, I have decided to find a new home for it. I recently acquired a domain name and created a website for the professional guitar playing side of my life and the lack of one central internet home for my digital self has been bothering me.
Therefore, I have decided to purchase some hosting and begin a new site that will integrate both my blog and my professional website. Luckily, I won’t be moving far away. It seems to me that a WordPress.org based back-end to my sight will provide the easiest and quickest way for me to get the site up and running while still allowing me to take advantage of all the lovely themes WordPressers have worked so hard to create.
If I have time, I’ll keep this blog updated on my progress.

Anyone who truly knows me would know that my favorite band is Yes. Of all the music I listen to, Yes wrote some of the only music that I can still actually enjoy after two and a half years of music theory classes. The pinnacle of their creative genius (in my humble opinion) is represented by their 1972 album Close to the Edge. The eighteen minute, forty three second long title track from that album is one of my favorite songs of all time and I thought it a good starting place for a blog that would, at times, speak of music.

In addition, I thought the title captured where I am in my life right now rather accurately. I just started my last semester of college, am almost finished recording my band’s debut album, and am about to start figuring out what I’m going to do with the rest of my life.
Thanks for reading! I’ll let you know when I’ve gone over the edge.
